Mission Statement: The mission of Open Mind is to break down the barriers of poverty.  Question Box Project's mission is to provide the information of the Internet to people who lack access.

Question Box Project is a solution that brings the power of the Internet to those who will likely not have access any time soon, or perhaps in their lifetime. Question Boxes are phone-based hotlines manned by a live Operator that allow users to ask most any question searchable on the Internet.  This simple and innovative system relies on verbal communication rather than written, is very easy to use, and by its presentation offers a very low barrier to exploration and access.

Programs and Activities

Phoolpur ribbonQuestion Boxes have been successfully piloted in two villages in Greater New Delhi.  These pilots received a lot of media attention, including an article in the UK Sunday Telegraph.

The Question Box Project is now growing.  Open Mind has opened a sister organization, Open Mind (India) in Pune, India, to help coordinate activities on the subcontinent.  Open Mind also now has a new Chief Technical Officer located in Kampala, Uganda, who will soon be spearheading Question Box pilots in that part of the world.  For the timebeing, we are gearing up to start a few new pilots in locations across India.
