Project Leader Biographies: Institute for Citizen Journalism

Rex Weyler, director, editor: Weyler is a journalist, writer, a cofounder of Greenpeace International, and served as the program director of the World Peace Forum 2006 in Vancouver. He is the author or co-author of eight books on cultural history and social change. His 1982 book Blood of the Land was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize; his book Greenpeace: The Inside Story appeared on Publishers Weekly "Best Books of 2004," and was a finalist for the Shaughnessy-Cohen Award for Political Writing. Weyler has edited publications such as the Greenpeace Chronicle, New Age Journal, and Shared Vision magazine. His stories and photographs have appeared internationally and he provides political and cultural commentary on Canadian television. Weyler lives in Vancouver, Canada, posts the "Deep Green" blog at Greenpeace International, and his own blog at www.rexweyler.com.

Roberto Wohlgemuth, Director, video production and legal affairs: Wohlgemuth, from Ecuador, is a lawyer with a background in the field of human rights. He speaks English, Spanish, German, and Portuguese, and holds a Master degree in International Law. He was formerly with the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva. He worked with CIVICUS, promoting and protecting the space for civic groups to freely associate, assemble and express, in countries such as Zimbabwe, Belarus, and Bangladesh. He immigrated to Canada and worked with the Institute for Media, Policy and Civil Society (IMPACS) as coordinator for the Charities and Democracy Project. He was appointed Director of the Board of the Peoples’ Advocacy Society where he volunteers as an advocate assisting people with disabilities. He now serves as Marketing Coordinator for Changemakers in Vancouver, and as Secretary-Treasurer of the Institute for Citizen Journalism.
