Through Our Eyes Orphan Photography Project A Huge Success (Fall 2008)
The Botswana Orphan Project’s Through Our Eyes Orphan Photo Project has been a huge success and is expanding. Last year, we returned to Botswana with disposable cameras, a brief lesson and the request that the children photograph their lives. The results were images of love and respect, friendship and struggle, and glowing optimism in the face of loss. A selection of these striking photos have been shown and sold as a fundraiser.
Program supporters have donated 35 cameras for the orphans. We have been extraordinarily fortunate by the presence in Botswana of a professional photographer willing to donate his talents to the center. Andy Eckerele has offered to give his time to teach the children photography on their newly donated cameras. We will show and sell their photos as a means of supporting the center. It is another way these remarkable children can communicate their struggles and hopes to the world. The children will also learn a marketable skill.
