Taproot Center

Taproot Farm and the newly incorporated Washington non-profit organization Taproot Center are located on Orcas Island in San Juan County. Taproot Farm has supported internships, workshops and seasonal programs for teens, college age youth and adults in organic farming, sustainable building technology and cottage enterprise development since 1994.

In addition to local and regional work, Taproot works in collaboration with the Community Land Trust Network (Massachusetts), People Centered Development Forum (Bainbridge Island), the Community Food Security Coalition (California) and International Partners in Sustainable Development (Washington DC) on campaigns for sustainable food systems development and exchanges of grassroots experiences in countries from every region of the world.

Beginning in 2000 Taproot Center is working with many networks of grassroots civil society organizations to prepare for the 2002 United Nations World Summit for Sustainable Development to be held in South Africa. As a small part in this global mobilization, Taproot Center will host many meetings, trainings and workshops over the coming 18 months to inform and educate young people and organizational leaders.
