Bridging Communities Through

Caring for the Earth

Eretz Natna Yevulah
“The Earth Gives Forth Her Bounty”

The natural flow of abundance to all the earth’s residents may be restored and balanced through creative, generous, and long-sighted effort. Based in the Galilee of northern Israel, Eretz Natna Yevulah organizes and participates in projects that work to restore the earth’s natural health and relations between people. The acronym for the name of our project in Hebrew spells the word Ani – “I” in English. Eretz Natna Yevulah’s projects stress individual responsibility and action.

Kadita Ecology Center

Located in a small village in the northern Galilee, this educational center offers workshops and apprenticeship opportunities in sustainable living practices such as solar cooking, greywater reuse, rainwater collection, gardening, seed saving, and composting. The Halpern family, also known as the Pompony Family Circus, opened their land to the creation of this educational-ecology center in memory of the late Tzveka Halpern, husband, father and head clown.

The Steven’s Garden Project:
Urban Gardening with Children

With Steven's Garden Project children living in Tzefat learn how to develop and maintain organic gardens, and apply permaculture principles. The project was founded in 1996 as a living memorial to Steven Levine, who passed away from cancer at age 26. Dozens of children in Tzefat have learned gardening, making compost and basics of ecology through this project. Based in an orthodox Jewish neighborhood, ecology is taught in the context of Jewish tradition. A coloring book "Nature in Tzefat" was created with this project, and is available in Hebrew or English through Eretz Natna Yevulah.

Steven's Garden in the Beginning

Steven's Garden in 2004

The first Steven's Garden was planted in 1996. For six years it was the site of weekly children's activities and workshops for adults. In 2001 it reached maturity as an ornamental and recreational urban green space. It is enjoyed by local neighbors and tourists. A new mural was painted on the wall behind the garden in 2004.
